Jeez, I've been lazy lately, haven't I?

I hope you had a Merry U2 Christmas and a Happy New Year as well!  I want to thank Paula and her husband Mark for coming down to my bar crawl December 27th-it was fun and crazy.  I want to thank Marta dear for giving me the gifts that keep on giving...Bono scented candles and the "Into The Heart" book by Niall Stokes;  plus the 2003 U2 Calender and a great desk calender of glorious Ireland, which I will be hopefully visiting sometime this summer.

I want to also say that I've done it-I've got another convert to the U2 fandom clan-my own mother Patti O'Brien.  I gave her ATYCLB for Christmas, and now she and my younger sisters refer to our man as "Uncle Bono!"  His picture even rests on their mantle along with my sister's dance photos and family pics!

Well, I'll try to keep on top of this website, so hopefully I'll get off my duff next week and post some of the new stuff I got.  Well, Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day to all my American friends (and my Irish, English and French friends as well) and have a fantastic week!  Tootles!

My Whole Longwinded Reason Why I Love U2.

Why do I love U2?  Well, saying that I love their music wouldn't be even the half of it.  They spread a message of hope and faith in their songs that few other rock bands have ever done.  They are passionate about what they do, and they are excellent people to boot.  Their charismatic live performances lift you up to the clouds and leave you there all night.  Okay, maybe I'm being overly sentimental, but if you're a fan you'll know where I'm coming from!  Here's my top 20 favorite U2 songs:

  1. Running to Stand Still
  2. Zoo Station
  3. Promenade
  4. Beautiful Day
  5. Electric Co.
  6. Stay (Faraway, So Close!)
  7. Sunday, Bloody Sunday
  8. Seconds
  9. Mysterious Ways
  10. All I Want Is You
  11. Desire
  12. Another Time, Another Place
  13. Bad
  14. Where the Streets Have No Name
  15. Bullet the Blue Sky
  16. The Fly
  17. Lady With the Spinning Head
  18. Discotheque
  19. If You Wear That Velvet Dress
  20. Elevation

Bono and Me
lindsaysbonopic.jpg
I met Bono while he was in Lincoln NE during the World AIDS Day event at the University of Nebraska.

This last weekend was an unforgettable one !  Bono came here with Ashley Judd, Lance Armstrong and Bobby Shriver to bring the message to Nebraskans about AIDS in Africa.  Living here in the Midwest, the African AIDS pandemic seems very far away, but Bono & Co. brought it all home to Lincoln.  An Ugandan AIDS activist named Agnes spoke about her experiences-her husband's and youngest child's deaths to AIDS, the dissapearance of another child, her own fight with HIV, and the social stigma that comes with it.  This was her first time in America, and she spoke in front of 2000 people about her life.  She was absolutly amazing, brave and strong.
Also part of the event was the Gateway Singers, a group of young African performers.  Lincoln has never seen anything quite like this!  They were all very talented and boy could they dance!  I was very impressed with the depth of Bono's knowledge on AIDS in Africa, and on the enthusium all of the participants shared for the cause.  It was a wonderful experience I will never forget!
